It wasn’t until I was in my forties that I discovered Dr. Judith Orloff’s books. According to the self-assessment test (link below), I am a “full-blown empath”.
Once it became clear that there was not anything actually wrong with me, everything was different. It was brighter. I understood so much more about myself and was able to gradually figure out how to distinguish between what feelings were mine and which feelings were being projected by others.
As I became stronger, some relationships ceased. It was difficult, but I realized that while there were relationships worth nurturing, there were other relationships that would prevent me from fully developing into who I finally understood myself to be.
Today, I am content with the choices I made. And, despite all the struggles and pain, I am happy with who I’ve become.
I hope my story, told in these little blog tidbits, will help someone else make strong choices, too, so they can be who they were meant to be to the fullest potential.
