Why Me? (a Peach and Beech episode)

“I’m sad,” said Peach.

Beech looked sideways at Peach and wanted to say something sarcastic. But, something told her this wasn’t the time for crude humor. “Why is that?”

“Life is so hard. Why do we have to struggle so much when other people have it so easy?”

Beech thought for a moment. She was known for a rare word of comfort when needed. As irritating as it was when Peach was all bubbly and cute, it was equally irritating when she was whiny and mopey. “The experiences we have are so that we can guide others with wisdom when they experience something similar. God is preparing us to be leaders. Do you want to be a leader or do you want to have a tantrum?”

Peach sniffed. She wanted to whine some more. An uninhibited tantrum might make her feel better. Actually, if she was being honest, a tantrum would make her feel much worse after it was over. The recovery time to drag herself out of the dumps would be much longer than just taking a few deep breaths now and refocusing. Plus, she and Beech both already knew the answer. Wiping her eyes, she said quietly, “I want to be a leader, Beech.”

“Good. We’re going to make a kick-ass team.”
