That Full Moon

There has been much discussion through my circle of friends about the full moon earlier this week and the strange occurrences they attribute to it. Many of my friends are very interested in astrology. They always know which sign the moon is in and what it is supposed to mean. I don’t follow astrology myself, but I admit to noticing some oddly accurate things my friends have predicted.

My mother used to spurn anyone who trusted astrology, fortune telling, tarot cards, magic, etc. I have been curious about it at times, but ultimately decided that it wasn’t for me. At the same time, I do not dismiss the people who take it more seriously. I have found that they do not dismiss me either when I tell them that my interest is in studying the life of Jesus.

In fact, in recent years, this circle of people who love astrology and such have been more welcoming to me and genuinely curious about my studies than anyone I know under the umbrella of the Christian religion. Strange, isn’t it?

One of my friends told me earlier today that the main effect of this recent full moon is to magnify the power of personal truth. Well, it’s true. I’ve discovered a very powerful truth. The most genuine friendships I now have are with the very people that I was raised to believe are opposition. It’s beauty in irony.

Anyone who can respectfully sit down with another and discuss differences with an open mind is not opposition. They are leaders. They seek truth for the good of all. And just maybe they have more in common than they were led to believe.
