There are so many bonfire discussions on the internet, you may or may not have come across the debate on whether or not Jesus and Mary Magdalene had children. It’s a fiery one that seems to get people really worked up.
But, no one really knows, do they? People choose to believe one way or another, but the truth is no one can possibly know. None of the common arguments solve it for me. Centuries of the Bible’s re-translations and edits have made the Bible into an incomplete cross-reference in my personal spiritual study. And, if the Bible was edited by men, any other document or reference could be corrupted. Therefore, the only conclusion left in my view is that we will just never know.
Think about that for a moment. Why would it ever be made known if it were true that Jesus had children? I mean, Jesus was publicly and brutally murdered. The Sanhedrin also planned to put Lazarus to death to eliminate any proof or reminders of Jesus’ miraculous powers. Luckily, he was forewarned and escaped, but the threat to his life was imminent.
What would they have done to Jesus’ children, grandchildren and so on? As a mother, I would have hidden my children. And, it’s said that Mary Magdalene did just that. She fled to France.
What would happen to those descendants who some believe exist today if their identities were revealed? I am seriously asking the question. What would happen? I read that they are actively being sought. For what purpose?
Would they be seized by the government? By the Vatican? Would they be scientific subjects? M-K Ultra’ed? Cloned? Murdered?
What would their existence mean to the world? Would it mean anything? Would it mean nothing? Would descendants be publicly scrutinized? What would society’s expectations be of them?
Would Jesus’ family status change people’s reverence for him and what he taught us? If so, why? Why does it matter whether Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children?
So many questions. Has anyone else sat and given it this much thought before tossing an opinion-grenade out on the web?
After reading several articles, which of course, I have no way of knowing are true or not, I have given it a lot of thought. Consider this for a moment with me.
If you were contacted and told you were a descendant of Jesus, what would that mean to you?
I’m thinking of these possibles scenarios.
- You think it’s a scam and ignore it.
- You dismiss it because it’s not written in the Bible and therefore couldn’t possibly be true. It’s the work of the devil.
- You are surprised, think it’s kind of cool, but it doesn’t change anything.
- You are knocked off your feet and decide to learn everything you can about it. It completely changes everything in how you live and how you see life. But, because it changed your life so dramatically, you can’t imagine the effect it would have on others and your relationship with them, so you stay silent.
- You become paranoid and go into hiding.
What would your scenario be? Would it have no effect, some effect or a profound effect on your life? Would you tell anyone?
Thinking about it from that point of view, does it change how you might answer the initial question of whether or not there are, or ever were, descendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalene?
Obviously, we will never know for sure until we are beyond the pearly gates. So, last question, is it worth fighting over? Because, for those who step into the fruitless argument, it’s only a distraction from your ability to fully comprehend Jesus’ teachings. And, isn’t that the ultimate point?
Here’s a good, every day one to remember that Jesus taught us. We are ALL God’s children, equally loved. Let’s treat each other as such.
