There are those days when life is just so disappointing. People, events, unfulfilled hopes and dreams….all disappointing. But did you ever ask yourself why you feel disappointment?

If you think about it, disappointment always comes from unmet expectations, whether we’ve expected a certain outcome, something from someone else or something better from ourselves. But, is it reasonable to even have expectations? Yes, it is, if they have been clearly stated and agreed to ahead of time. But, if that hasn’t happened, then it really isn’t fair, either to yourself or anyone else, to have any expectations at all.
It also isn’t reasonable to have expectations in situations that cannot be controlled. That is a set up. It is infinitely better to train yourself to deal efficiently with unforeseen circumstances. If you don’t handle a surprise perfectly, then you can use the experience to do better the next time.
When walking into a situation with unknown parameters, I give myself a little pep talk. “Be honorable to your truth and purpose, put your highest potential at the forefront, have faith, and above all, let it be your will to do God’s will.”
If you follow that course, you will not stumble. Instead, you will be strong enough to help pick up others that do.
